Narnia, the most popular book ever released by C. S. Lewis, is set in an alternate history of our world. Narnia was created by Aslan, the Lion, who pulled it out of nothingness and inhabited it with animals he loved. One of these animals is a talking badger named Digory Kirke. Digory begins to dig deep into the River Hali and finds a secret room that contains what seems to be an ordinary wardrobe just waiting for someone to come along and open it up. He rushes home to his friend Polly Plummer, who is the only one he can tell about his discovery. He opens the wardrobe and discovers it is a portal to the land of Narnia. Polly goes with him to Narnia, where they meet another talking animal, a faun named Mr. Tumnus, who invites them to come back with him to his home for tea and buns. When they arrive at their destination, Mr. Tumnus takes them inside where he introduces them to two other fauns who tell them that they know all about humans and how evil their race is. The four fauns begin planning how best to use this opportunity for evil as Mr. Tumnus serves cookies and milk for Polly and Digory. The moment the children are asleep, Mr. Tumnus takes them outside, ties them up, puts them in a stinky burlap sack, and begins the long walk to the White Witch's castle. On their journey they run into Jadis herself, who just happens to be riding by on her horse. She sees Mr. Tumnus with his captives and instantly recognizes him as he is her own personal spy in Narnia, ever since she created him upon Narnia's founding many years ago. Jadis uses her magic to take them all to her castle. Jadis brings Mr. Tumnus inside, but leaves Polly and Digory tied up outside in the cold. In order to kill the two children, Jadis plans on making it appear as though they have starved to death by not feeding them or letting them out of their sack for days on end. The only thing that stands in the way of a successful deception is a talking animal named Reepicheep who has been sent to spy on the White Witch by his King Rishda Tarkaan, who learns of their plight through his spy-servant Puddleglum. Puddleglum is sent to Narnia just to find out the truth about the White Witch and if she has any magic in her. He is not allowed to harm any of Jadis' subjects, so he pretends that Mr. Tumnus is a harmless harmless faun that he can have tea with or talk to. He does this in order to get close enough to Polly and Digory so that when they are caught, they will be willing to talk in order for them to escape death at the Witch's hands. cfa1e77820
